North Atlantic bottlenose dolphin. Set out on Explorer and Michael Hayward and Judie Clee this morning with variable winds predicted to pick up by the afternoon. Despite lots of sunshine, no waves and several whale watching boats, the pickings were slim. We eventually found a feeding whale in 180 feet of water near Chubb Heads but he surfaced quietly and dived (without showing his fluke) for ten minutes at a time. We did see a pod of North Atlantic bottlenose dolphins which approached the boat. The first day out this season without a fluke id.
The single whale we saw.
