2010 05 26- Matching our 2010 fluke ids against our own catalogue- our 0002 ided in 2007 and 2010 Print E-mail
Written by Andrew Stevenson

Our # 0002 was first photographed here in Bermuda on 21st April 2007. It was photographed again on 13th April 2010. Hal Whitehead first photographed the fluke of this whale in 1978 in Newfoundland. For those who have seen my film, "Where the Whales Sing" this is the whale that approached Magical Whale when I was filming Magical Whale. It was a profound experience when I saw this whale again. We had gone out on a day when it was very rough, windy, and grey and I had zero expectations of spotting a whale when 0002 breached right in front of the boat. Despite giving away his position, we lost him, until he breached just behind the boat, in our wake. He started tail lobbing and I thought I recognized him, but wasn't sure. Then he turned over and presented a perfect photograph for a fluke and then I knew it was 0002. It was a profound experience seeing this whale again and there was no doubt that he deliberately drew our attention to himself.
