2011 10 20- Satellite tagged whales around New Zealand, latest position Print E-mail

The good news and the bad news. The tagged whale 84455 and her calf are no longer transmitting. Hopefully they got through the oil slick off the Bay of Plenty without problem. The tags can stop transmitting for any number of reasons but let's hope it has nothing to do with the demise of the whale!

In the meantime, the other tagged whale in NZ waters has rounded the northern cape of New Zealand and is now progressing down the western side of North Island.

These whales have been tagged in a project carried out by Operation Cetaces in collaboration with NOAA and it is funded by Foundation d'Entreprise TOTAL. Thanks to Dr Phil Clapham for sending these satellite positions to us.
