2012 04 18- Satellite-tagged whales coming our way from the Silver Bank! Print E-mail
Written by Andrew Stevenson
Two satellite-tagged whales are heading our way from the Silver Bank. These two whales were tagged three weeks ago in an effort to understand the migratory paths of the humpbacks from their breeding grounds on the Silver Bank between Turks and Caicos and Dominican Republic and their feeding grounds up north. There is a good chance the first of these whales will come past Bermuda in the next few days when we expect good weather.

"This work was carried out by the National Marine Mammal Laboratory (Seattle, WA USA) and Atemar SA with written permission from the Ministry of Environment of the Dominican Republic.  Support also came from Jean Lemire (Glacialis Productions, Canada) and Gene Flipse (Conscious Breath Adventures, USA)."

It is important that we try and identify these animals as they pass by Bermuda so all fluke ID photographs will be welcome!
