Beginning in 1986 Andrew Stevenson's love affair with the Himalayas was initiated with several assignments to Nepal to monitor and evaluate Canadian foreign aid projects. Over the next two decades he made 17 trips to the Himalayas exploring the Annapurnas, Upper Mustang, the Everest region and Bhutan. Three of his books on the Himalayas have been published in the UK, USA, Germany, Australia, India and Nepal. His travel narrative "Annapurna Circuit: Himalayan Journey" was published in 1997 and has become a classic account of two months spent walking around the Annapurnas. He completed a large-format illustrated book published in the UK as, "A Nepalese Journey: On foot around the Annapurnas" and in the USA as "A  Nepalese Journey: The Essence of the Annapurna Circuit" both published in 2002. His third Himalayan book, "The Envelope: Walking up to Everest Base Camp" was bought by Lonely Planet and published in 2009 by Vajra Publications. Both the Annapurana and the Everest narratives were translated into German by National Geographic Adventure Press Germany. Andrew also made a documentary film on the Annapurnas, "Paving Shangri La" which won awards at the prestigious Telluride Mountain Film Festival in the USA and the Kendall Mountain Film Festival in the UK.
