2010 06 13- Beached 18-foot humpback calf on North Rock reefs Print E-mail
Written by Andrew Stevenson
I've received a report of an 18-foot humpback whale calf that was seen 'beached' on a reef about 11 am on Sunday. The whale was seen by the crew of the Sally Ann who reported sightng the whale. About an hour later the whale freed itself from the reefs. We had unusually low tides and calm seas this past weekend but it is still bewildering why a humpback calf would be stranded on one of our reefs unless it was sick. I haven't been able to speak to the captain of the Sally Ann but if I do, I'll report whatever additional information I can obtain.
