2010 09 16- One satellite-tagged whale still transmitting in South Pacific Print E-mail
Written by Andrew Stevenson

Sad to say, we have only one tag going at present.  This humpback whale was tagged in New Caledonia, and has now traveled about a thousand nautical miles southeast to the edge of the Tonga Trench, after skirting offshore of the northern tip of New Zealand.  Another whale (which ceased transmissions two days ago) was on a remarkably similar course.

Ten-day track attached.
